Her birthplace was Santa Monica in California on 26 November 1986. She is the daughter of Vincenzo Barba, her father and Valerie Barba. The family moved from Point Pleasant New Jersey when she was 6 years old. In New Jersey, she finished her education in Red Bank Catholic High School. She graduated from Catholic University in New Jersey with a Bachelor's Degree. Her first violin lessons began when she was four years old, and was referred to by the name Violin Girl. She was referred to by her nickname due to her performance. The children of her neighborhood were taught to play violin by her. She also sang Free beginning in 1976 during her audition to the sixth season of American Idol, at the age of 19. The show was cut short at the 16th spot.
